Land And Freedom in Andalucia

Slideshow

We’ve just spent two days on an occupied farm in Andalucia. Farmworkers from the Andalucian workers union (the SAT) have taken over the 400 hectare farm to stop it being sold off to the rich landowners, 4 or 5 of whom own most of the land in the province. The Andalucian government has sold off 12,200 hectares of public land to private landowners in the last year alone.

The region has 40% unemployment. Now SAT have turned the occupation into a working farm and aim to get at least 300 people working on it, making decisions collectively. They are demanding that the privatisation of the land stops now. If it doesn’t they plan to take more and more of it back and put it under workers control. New film on this subject coming soon…
