No 2 ESO! Sparks fight back against deskilling at Hinckley Point C

Running Time: 4mins 57 secs

Another major industrial dispute is kicking off as electricians occupy the London offices of EDF, one of several actions across the country over the deskilling of their profession.

EDF are the client for the Hinckley Point C nuclear power station project, where Balfour Beatty and NG Bailey are planning to introduce a new installer grade, the Electrical Support Operative (ESO). ESOs will be trained for just 7 weeks to do 75% of sparks’ work, for the fraction of the pay.

Balfour Beatty and NG Bailey have tried this before – and every time they’ve been beaten through militant rank and file action. If EDF don’t sort their contractors out and stop this disgusting attack, rank and file sparks in UNITE will bring chaos to building sites all over the UK once more.
