Further Education strikers demand better after a 35% pay cut in the last decade

Running Time: 5 mins 2 secs

Day 4 of the strike in further education saw a huge, passionate and angry picket line at Lewisham College, one of 26 colleges out on strike for a decent pay rise.

Lewisham and Southwark college workers have been offered just 2.5% plus a one-off payment of £500. FE workers have had a pay CUT of 35% over the past 10 years and now earn £10,000 less than teachers. Meanwhile the CEO of NCG, which runs Lewisham and Southwark colleges, rakes in over £240,000 a year.

Now university lecturers and prison tutors are set to join them on strike as the biggest pay revolt in decades gathers momentum. Next strike dates:  Tues Oct 18, Weds Oct 19, and Thurs Oct 20.
