Historic strike at TSSA as staff members supported by their union, GMB, take industrial action against bulliyng, harrrassment, staff suspensions and sickness, recruitment irregularities and cronyism. Joined in solidarity by reps, members and #MeTU, this is a crucial moment in the demand for culture change and union democracy .
Running counter to the Kennedy Inquiry and Conley Report – which got rid of the perpetrators and corrupt regime in charge with disgraced former General Secretary Manuel Cortes – there has since been no structural change.
Women in Focus, the self-organised womens’ group who were key to getting rid of the perpetrators alongside rank and file campaign group #MeTU and survivors , have been de-recognised. Two EC members have resigned in protest. Branches and the staff union have passed ‘No Confidence’ motions in the new leadership.
And to add to the glaring evidence that the current leadership are completely unfit for office, Maryam Eslamdoust, the General Secretary, came into work at 7:30am to avoid the picket line – effectively crossing the picket line without having to face anyone – on the day before Mayday.
With strike action looming in both the UCU and GMB over very similar issues, this is a major opportunity to purge our unions of the bullies, sexists and racists who have done so much damage to our movement. Support the strikes, join the picket lines – lets reclaim our unions once and for all.
