Birmingham bin workers, on all out strike to stop a shocking £8,000 pay cut by the council, protested outside the full council meeting – where supporters went in and constantly disrupted the meeting in disgust at the council’s – and the government’s inaction.
Birmingham City Council have declared bankruptcy and are repaying loans from the government with loads of interest – a fraction of which would easily settle this dispute. But instead of seeking a new agreement with the government, they are bringing in scabs to try to break the strike, while the government tells the strikers to accept a deal that doesn’t even exist.
If they get away with this in Birmingham, public services will be under serious threat everywhere. You can take action to support the workers here: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/birmingham-council-stop-attacking-your-workers
