John Roan strike: academy sponsor UST withdraws

Film length: 6:46 ***UPDATE: UST ANNOUNCED ON DECEMBER 20 THAT THEY ARE PULLING OUT OF JOHN ROAN!

GMB support staff at John Roan school took another three days of strike action this week over the threat to jobs that forced academisation will bring – with teachers, who are waiting to be balloted to strike, refusing to cross picket lines. Academy sponsor UST has spent over half a million pounds on consultancy fees this year, with another 438K due to be spent next year – and are also charging the school half a million a year for providing services. This explains the over one million pound deficit the school now has – which will mean around 65 support staff and 10-15 teachers losing their jobs to balance the accounts, accounts that UST admitted this week they don’t even understand. It’s clear that this outfit shouldn’t be let anywhere near education – all power to the staff and parents at John Roan school for standing up to them.
